Warning: I am not responsible if Photo is Contagious!

Bless, bless, bless my sweet baby love. On Tuesday (the day after our lovely anti-sedation dentist trip), I started noticing yucky little bumps here & there on Nash. And, as the day progressed, the spots got worse! I knew we HAD to go visit Dr. G. And, when we got there at 5:00, he took one look at him and KNEW It was Hand/Foot/Mouth! And, the worse part(s)…
1. There’s really nothing you can do!
2. It is ULTRA contagious.
3. Other people may have it and not know it. (but, most people that get it are under 4)
4. You should probably stay away from nurseries for a week or two!

Thankfully, the medicine we got for the diaper area cleared that up fast…and, Nash’s case didn’t have any bumps in his mouth and throat. So, now we stay in our jammies and wait it out. Here’s hoping that it’s gone before we know it…BUT…You have to know that NOTHING has stopped me from kissing this face! What a love!Jan 25-29 016

Jammie Night @ Paradise Pond

When we interviewed at our new church home, we were given the tour. And, on the tour, we walked into Paradise Pond and I think angels sang. Years ago, our church transformed the old sanctuary into a play area wonderland for kids and it is DUH.AR.LING! Every kid and every momma LOVES it. So, when the preschool department at our church was having a Jammie Night at “the Pond” on Friday night the 20th, we couldn’t wait to get in our comfiest best and head that way.

And, the best part?!!?!…Youth Pastor, Matt Poe would be reading the bedtime story. (cracked me up that those words were in the bulletin, in emails and on the announcements.)

Needless to say, we all had a GREAT time playing, dining on milk & cookies and hearing “Pete the Cat” from Daddy! {Nash was just a tad confused at why his Daddy has HIS book and HIS Pete character and wouldn’t let him have it!} The kids LOVED the book choice…and the dinner spoiling! :)

“You don't have to brush your teeth - just the ones you want to keep.” ~Author Unknown

The last few weeks have been all about the dentist at ThePoeFam’s house! It started with Quinn. After I found a good dentist, I started prepping Q for the first time event. Thankfully, he was excited and couldn’t wait to go. And, he was such a big boy on January 10th when he got his x-rays and his teeth cleaned without Momma around!

But, the not so good news was when Dr. Armstrong called me back and said that we had “lots to talk about!” Unfortunately, my baby has his Mommas soft teeth and had a mouth FULL of cavities. SIX, to be exact!…four on the back, left ones and then his TWO FRONT TEETH! Gracious day! Part of it was due to lack of flossing…part of it was just his mean ‘ol teeth. All I know is that I almost had a heart attack! I guess that’s what I get for waiting so long to get him to the dentist!

{Precious boy with his mouth FULL of strawberry seeds and cavities!…}Jan 16 019

Then, it was time for Mommy and Daddy! Mercy me!!! Once we got some good recs for a dentist, Matt went first. And, since it had been about 15 years since he had been {GASP!}, we knew it wasn’t going to be pretty. They spent a lot of time taking pictures, cleaning and making notes. Due to the “results,” he left with no idea how bad it was.

A few days later, I nervously went for my “d-day!” It had been about 10 years since I had last gone and I KNEW it was going to be bad. … Thankfully, the experience wasn’t too bad. Pictures, x-rays, cleaning and more. I, like Matt, left with no results…but, we scheduled a day to come in and discuss our “treatment plan” with the doctor. dentist

Surprisingly enough, I thought that our list was going to be longer. We both have about 8 cavities (most of which are old fillings that just need to be re-done)…and, I was so thankful that he didn’t feel that our wisdom teeth needed to come out in the near future. (since Matt and I both have all four!) We’ll just slowly start tackling all that has to be done and have healthy teeth before we know it!

But, before our treatment plan could begin, we wanted to get Q taken care of. So on January 23rd we scheduled his appointment for sedation and treatment. That mean “sedation” word scared this Mommy, but I knew he would be fine and not remember a thing.

Since Mammer and Slickpaw were in town, they kept Nash so that Matt and I could both go. We took Quinn on a trip to Target for a quick sussy before going…and to distract him from wanting to eat before his 9:30 appointment.

Then, when we arrived at the office, they took him back to drink his medicine…and then sent him back to the waiting room with us for it to start kicking in. He just watched the movie, played his DS and (honestly) acted perfectly normal. I expected him to start getting sleepy, but it never happened.

But, after about 30ish minutes, they came to get him. We gave big hugs and told him we couldn’t wait to see his pretty teeth.

Matt and I kept busy for the next 45 minutes before they came to get us. And, when the assistant came out and called his name, I could tell something wasn’t quite right. …And, my intuition was correct. Long story short…my baby didn’t take to the anesthesia. Apparently it made him very, very hyper. The doctor said he got sleepy for a very short amount of time…and, that allowed them to fill the cavities in the back…but, there was NO WAY they were getting to the front ones. She explained that he was so wiggly and couldn’t stop scratching his nose…and that he was very sad and crying. Break my heart!

When we finally got to see him, he immediately started crying. You could tell he was scared and confused! As I held him and he fell asleep, she explained that we would just continue to watch the front teeth and treat them so that we could hopefully avoid a hospital sedation to get them filled.

Bless him. As soon as  we got in the car, he fell asleep. And, when we got home, he slept for almost 4 hours. Then, when he woke up, he started feeling sick…and he threw up numerous times. When I called the dentist, she said to brush his teeth to get the yucky taste and to try to keep him hydrated. After that, things got better…he was just so grossed out by the taste in his mouth from the varnish they put on his teeth. Jan 22-23 034

Now, when we talk about it, he doesn’t speak highly of the experience, but he doesn't seem traumatized either. I just pray that the cavities don’t grow…and that he doesn’t forever loathe trips to the dentist. Who would have thought for this craziness? I can honestly say that this scenario never crossed my mind. … But, I’m thankful it’s over…and thankful that I have such a big, brave boy! q after dentist

Here’s to less sugar…and more flossing at our house!!!

Brothers = Built in Buddies

Lately, the two littlest boys that live at my house have become the cutest little buddies. Quinn has always been a HUGE fan of his baby brother (and vice versa)…but, lately, they have truly become playmates. It crakes me up that a 4 1/2 (I REFUSE to say almost 5) year old and a 1 1/2 year old can play tag…wrestle…play legos or Batman…watch shows snuggled up on the couch…tackle…and act like SUCH boys! As much as their roughness makes me nuts…I love it at the same time! What a joy to have a house full of boys!!! Jan 19 022

Roy G. Biv (round 2)

When Q was 18 months old, I started teaching him his colors. (click here to flash back to Q at 18 months!)  So, Quinn and I thought it was time to start teaching Nash. We started with the fun baths…and, he loved it! And, his big brother ABSOLUTELY loves teaching him what each color is! Nash has yet to be able to identify colors, but he is saying some of the words. We’ll keep practicing…and, what better time than in the tub.

A Year of “going out” by Staying in!

A few ideas on Pinterest led me to make Matt a little homemade Christmas gift. Due to our CRAZY schedules, I thought I needed to do something to make “date nights” I priority. But, getting a sitter AND spending money on a fun night out gets SUPER expensive, SUPER fast. So, take a look at what I made…mid December 2011 048
mid December 2011 044Each page has a sealed envelope that has a fun “date” for us. It includes things like…

January
: Movie Night (with candy and popcorn)
February: Wine & Cheese Tasting
March: Game Night
April: “One of the Guys” Night (video games, pizza & wings)
May: Make a Yummy Dessert Together
June: Picnic in the backyard
July: VIP Lounge
August: Ice Cream Sundaes in the Kiddie Pool
September: Jammies, Snacks and Shows in bed
October: Pumpkin Carving/Painting while sipping on Pumpkin Spice Lattes
November: Go through my Project Life and talk about the blessings of our year
December: Drink Peppermint Mochas while we make Peanut Butter Balls and listen to our favorite Christmas music

Most of the things are practically free and are fun things we can do once the boys go to bed. I can’t wait to “go out” with my hubby!!! And, it’s not too late to make your own. It would be a perfect Valentine’s Day gift! Happy Dating! mid December 2011 046mid December 2011 047

Our Little Reader!

Lately, when reading bedtime stories, I have been intentional about having Quinn read a few words per story. He’ll carefully sound out the letters until he can blend the sounds together and read the word independently. …So, when he picked a simple story last night, I knew it was time to let him try to read the whole thing by himself! And, guess what? HE DID IT! ALL BY HIMSELF! The first grade teacher in me was so proud…but, the Momma in me could have cried! I couldn’t believe that my little guy READ A BOOK! And, the cutest thing was how proud he was of himself! He was BEAMING and would have probably read all night. He read “Big Max” a few more times and then read another story! He rarely got frustrated! So…here’s to a WHOLE new world that is slowly opening for my sweet love. I’m so excited for him!

Our 18 month Lineman

My silly, spunky, funny, busy, hard-headed, lovey, second born Chubber Bubs is 18 months old…One and a half!! And, on Wednesday, (2 days before his actual half birthday) he had his well check. Despite the 2 yucky shots, everything looked great. Dr. Guetersloh quickly mentioned that we had a lineman on our hands!…And, his stats prove that!…
Weight: 28 lbs. 14 oz. (90%)
Height: 33 inches (90Z%)
Head: 19.3 (95%)

I am SO very thankful to have gotten an A+ report card…and thanked Jesus for such a healthy little big man! Jan 2-4 028Jan 2-4 031Jan 2-4 032

Mr. & Mrs. Pollitte

On December 30th, we had the privilege of witnessing our sweet friend, Stephen, become a husband! We got a sitter for Nash, and Matt, Q and I (and Mammer and Slickpaw) had such a fun evening…the wedding was BEAUTFIUL and the reception was one of the most amazing I have ever attended! I don’t think I’ll ever tire of attending weddings!!! I love everything it!

Congratulations Stephen and Natalie!!! We are so very happy for you!!! Christmas 2011 New Years 2012 192
