Mammers are Mommies with LOTS of Frosting!!!

Mammer and Ice Cream 001

Here are a few things that only a Mammer would do...

*A Mammer would drive 3 1/2 hours just to take care of me!

*After driving, that Mammer would stay for 5 whole days!

*That same Mammer would…

*Feed me breakfast, lunch and dinner…even though I’m very good at changing my mind!

*Play trains with me for hours on end.

*Give me the most fun baths.

*Wipe my snotty nose at least 1,000 times.

*Get me dressed!

*Take me potty (and change my diaper when I didn’t make it to the potty!)

*Watch my shows with me.

*Read me story after story after story.

*Sing to me ALL of the time!

*Take me on really fun walks…pointing out every bird, squirrel, tree, flower and bug that we spotted on the way! (She even taught me about mockingbirds and scissortails!)

*Take me to the park…and show me how to make footprints from the dewy grass.

*Make me “baby bites” for a snack! (That’s little bites of peanut butter on crackers…MMM!)

*Bring me new trains, and clothes, and toys! :) She spoils me for sure!

*Chase down the ice cream man so that I can get my Batman ice cream!

*Color with me…paint with me…draw with sidewalk chalk with me!

*Play with me in the mornings so that Mommy & Daddy could sleep a little longer!

*Make me a cool band-aid just like Daddy’s!

*Do laundry! …and put fresh sheets & blankets on my bed!

*And even more….way too much to list!

All of that is to say that my Mammer is great! I am so glad that she came to take care of me when Daddy had his surgery! Mommy and Daddy say that they can’t imagine how they could have done it without her…and I agree! It was so fun getting to have her all to myself for so many days, and I can’t wait until she comes back! (but it would be OK with me if she brought Slickpaw and Zoe next time!) …I LOVE YOU, MAMMER! I’ll be missin’ you until you come back! Mammer and Ice Cream 002

healing.

Recovery! 010Things are slowly but surely getting better around our house! Matt has taken off his big ‘ol bandage and has band-aids covering his 4 battle wounds! He has even put a little weight on his new knee today and is using one crutch to get around! :) … Q has recovered from his 102.8 fever but still has a pretty bad cough and runny nose. … I am still feeling pretty crummy…bad cough, yucky nose, sore throat! … When it rains, it pours!! Mammer is holding down the fort…doing laundry, playing with Q like crazy, helping Matt when I can’t, and trying to stay well! … But, we’re still trying to smile as much a possible…how cute are my two guys? Q had to have a “band-aid” just like Daddy’s!!!…Recovery! 006 Recovery! 007 Recovery! 009

Sprinklers!

The morning before Matt’s surgery, Matt decided to go and get us all donuts! And, when he asked Q what he wanted, he replied with, “chocolate with sprinklers!” And, he enjoyed every bite of TWO chocolate donuts!  What a treat! Reading, Fever, Surgery 018

“So, I AM the first pancake in the batch!”-Matthew Poe

Reading, Fever, Surgery 022 Well, we he survived ACL surgery today! WHEW!!! I can’t believe it’s over. After almost a month of pain, Matt went under the knife to have his flag football injury reversed! …After lots of doctor’s appointments and many pre-hab visits, we felt confidant that we had found the perfect doctor! And, we were right! Matt’s doc did a surgery that he had never completely done before…and even had lots of doctors there watching as it took place! This certain type of ACL surgery was all orthoscopic and only contained 4 small holes. It also involved a cadaver’s (yick?!?) hamstring. Crazy right? Also, due to Matt’s blood deficiency, more precautions had to be taken. …It was a lot to take in to consideration and made me thankful that I wasn’t a doctor!!! I can’t imagine the pressure….

Now…on to the surgery…

We went in at 7:30 this morning. Just Matt and I drove the surgery center since Mammer is in town to keep an eye on Q! Once we got there, we waited for a short time before they took Matt back to prep him for surgery. It was quick and easy….gown…IV…put an “x” on the correct knee…wear this crazy hat…etc! :)

Reading, Fever, Surgery 024 Reading, Fever, Surgery 025 After that, Steve and Randy came to pray with Matt while the anesthesiologist waited to give him his sedative. As soon as we said “Amen,” and I kissed my patient, they gave him the meds. Within 30 seconds, Matt was talking about all kinds of things and was looking quite interesting. Right as they wheeled him off, he described how the meds made him feel like some other unmentionable “medicine”…and the doc said, “Let’s get him out of here before he says something he’ll regret!” … Matt smiled, said, “But Christ makes all things new” and he was gone!

Then, the clock ticked as I read (the second Twilight book, of course), texted lots of Matt’s friends and family, and tried not to worry! After 2 1/2 hours, I got a little antsy…and, the receptionist went back to find out that they were still working. Finally, after 3 hours of waiting, they came out to tell me that he was out and doing great! At that point, Steve, Randy and Nancy were there keeping me company as well! …Soon after, the doc came out and told me that the surgery went PERFECTLY! (even all of the NEW stuff they were doing!) They said he successfully housed Mr.. (or Mrs.?) Smith’s hamstring and that he should recover nicely! … Then, it was more waiting! …. After about 30  more minutes, I got to go back and see my groggy guy! …

The first thing he said was…”did you go tan again!?…you look really tan!” (Silly boy…I happily started Versa-spa-ing again yesterday and I LOVE IT…welcome back tan me!!!)…and then rambled a little about the things he remembered and didn't’ remember from the time before his surgery. … Then, I explained how the surgery went perfectly and how he WAS the first to get this type of surgery from Dr. Morgan. He quickly responded with, “So I am the first pancake in the batch!” (Apparently the first pancake in the batch is never as good as the rest? So, he was jokingly a little nervous about being the guinea pig!) …Oh how funny pain meds make you!!! …

After helping get him dressed and an eventful trip to the bathroom, I drove him home so that he could get some much needed rest! :) …And, now we’re here….relaxing, recovering, welcoming visitors and enjoying some fun video games and movies! We’ll keep you posted on the patient!

Bye for now!

Early morning cheerfulness can be extremely obnoxious. ~William Feather

…It can be obnoxious, but I must admit, I enjoy the mornings!!! It has never really been hard for me to get up…but, even when it is, I get cheerful pretty quickly. And, ever since Quinn came into our world, I love mornings even more! Here are a few things I loved about this morning…

*Matt was able to be home with us! He got his study materials together and went out in the backyard to study for a while.

*Matt made coffee…isn’t it always better when someone else makes it?

*While I made another round of Friendship Bread, (and the yummy smell filled our house) Q ran in and out from the backyard. It didn’t matter that he was in his jammies…and that the grass was a little damp…he was having a great time! But, he did need me to wipe the “weeds” off of his feet a few times! :)

*I got to get in another chapter of Twilight while Matt studied and Q played! I’m hooked!!!

*I got to see my husband read God’s word to my little man!

*And, I got to ooh and ahh over the pretty sunflowers that my husband surprised me with!

Puppy Day: Our May Fun Day

When Quinn started talking about our monthly fun days, I knew that it was time to plan another one. He would say…”Member bug day, momma? That be fun!” So…I got busy…and today we had Puppy Day!!! It was so fun and such a perfect theme for us since we have 2 puppies of our own! :)

The day started with some reading. Q loved choosing from the fun puppy books that I had for him! 1st half Puppy Day 001 Then it was time for “beh-pest!” Q was hungry and had a hard time being patient while his bones cooked. (recipe here…but I sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar before I baked them!) But, I think it was worth the wait! He enjoyed them, and when I asked him what his puppy bowl said…he pointed at it from left to right and said, “puppy day!” in a very matter of fact tone. Good try! :) 1st half Puppy Day 003 1st half Puppy Day 005 After that, we sorted real dog bones, painted with real dog bones (but I don’t think brown was the best choice…Q almost licked the bone a dozen times because it looked like chocolate!), and colored Kia! :) 1st half Puppy Day 007 1st half Puppy Day 008 1st half Puppy Day 009 While Quinn was painting and coloring, I made him some furry little dog ears so that he could pretend to be a puppy for our next little activity. We read this book…51MD52CPH6L__SL500_ (which has lots of directional prompts) and then headed to get Zoe’s cage. Then, I gave Q commands like…get inside the cage, get out of the cage, get on top of the cage, go behind the cage, walk/run around the cage and more! Quinn did such a great job and was so cute in his puppy ears. He then got his stuffed puppy, Tuffs, and wanted to do it some more! :)   1st half Puppy Day 012 1st half Puppy Day 0101st half Puppy Day 014 1st half Puppy Day 015After that, we painted our monthly little wooden circle (which didn’t turn out so great!?!?…When I asked Q what it looked like, he waited a while before he said, “a bird!?” Oh well!) and made some YUMMY puppy chow. Q helped me shake the bag! This took me back to making BUCKETFULLS of this for all of our guy friends in college! It’s OH SO GOOD! :)  Q agreed! 1st half Puppy Day 0162nd half Puppy Day 005 1st half Puppy Day 018 1st half Puppy Day 020

Then, we got dressed, loaded up the puppies and headed out for a little field trip! Since we had never taken the puppies to the dog park, we knew that today was the perfect day!!! When we got there, it was just us….and I was disappointed….but, it didn’t take long for lots of little four legged friends to show up! There were puppies of all shapes, colors and sizes! Kia & Krozby wore themselves out and Q LOVED it so much! He even informed me at one point that this certain little fluffy dog was “Quinn’s puppy!” Silly boy! I didn’t get a lot of pictures because I was busy with two crazy puppies and a 2 year old…but you get the idea! We’ll for sure go back many times!!! :) 1st half Puppy Day 021 1st half Puppy Day 022 1st half Puppy Day 024  1st half Puppy Day 0291st half Puppy Day 031 1st half Puppy Day 027 1st half Puppy Day 033 1st half Puppy Day 034 1st half Puppy Day 035Then, it was home to take a bath! The puppies were yucky and in desperate need of it after their fun outing! Q was a good helper and wanted to make sure that they had lots of his toys to play with! …1st half Puppy Day 037Then, appropriately enough…we read this cute book…15341890Can you believe we did all of that before lunch? … Lunch was yummy and fun, of course! >>>1st half Puppy Day 038Then, before nap, we read this book…0689868049_01__SCLZZZZZZZ_Q loved it SOOO much! He wanted to read it over and over…then, he “read” it to me! So precious! :) 1st half Puppy Day 039He watched a tiny bit of both of these movies, and was quickly ready to go to bed! …

After nap, we snacked on that yummy puppy chow and then I totally overestimated what my little guy could accomplish. …Ooops! I bought him scissors, thinking that I would be able to start teaching him to cut…but I couldn’t even get him to hold the scissors correctly! … Then, I just knew he would talk and talk to me about these puppy pictures so that we could fill in a Venn Diagram…but no such luck! He just wanted to color with the markers! Oh well…maybe next year! Give me an A++ for being ambitious, right!?!?

2nd half Puppy Day 0012nd half Puppy Day 006

We had a hot dog dinner and enjoyed using our fun Kia & Krozby salt and pepper shakers that were recently given to us as a gift by a family friend! Aren’t they cute? 2nd half Puppy Day 004 2nd half Puppy Day 003

… The evening will end with this…It looks cute and I know Q will enjoy watching all of the puppies! hotel-for-dogs-poster What a hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog day we had!!! :)
